GERMANY 0-0 ARGENTINA What has gone on there? A Germany corner finds Howedes unmarked -- his header slams against the post before Romero claims, but the ball had gone out from Schweinsteiger's delivery. And that is the break. What a mesmerizing half of football.

A really bright start to the half from Argentina and Lionel Messi should have given them the lead. Biglia played a splendid throughball to Messi, who strode into the penalty area before sweeping a low effort narrowly wide of Manuel Neuer's goal.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but Lionel Messi looks to be struggling. He felt his hamstring a couple of minutes ago and he seemed to strain as he chased a cross-field ball. Let's hope he's ok.

Germany seems to have finally arrived for the second half. Philipp Lahm launched a raid forward from right back before seeing his dribble cut short on the edge of the Argentina penalty area. The game is fantastically open, surely we won't be waiting much longer for a goal?

Gonzalo Higuain is in heap on the floor after a hefty collision with Germany's hulking goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. A bouncing ball was launched over the top and Neuer sprung from his goal to punch clear the danger, accidentally thrusting a hip into Higuain's head in the process. Ouch.
Argentina is still having the better of the contest but there are signs Germany is fighting back. Miroslav Klose, the leading goalscorer in the history of the World Cup, rose to direct a header at goal that Romero was able to repel.

Sergio Aguero has made a difference since coming on at half time. The pocket-sized striker battled bravely to win a corner off Mats Hummels before seeing his header deflected wide by Klose from the resulting set piece.

Was that challenge from Neuer a bit devilish? Perhaps apt that he is referred to like this in German football vernacular.
Two yellow cards in quick succession for Argentina, first for Javier Mascherano and then Aguero, the latter for a poorly-timed challenge on Schweinsteiger. There's an edge creeping into the match now, with some hefty tackles flying in.

A hint of a chance as Marcos Rojo makes a rare venture forward. His cut back is just too short for Higuain, who was poised to swing his left boot at it before the German defender cleared.

Andre Schurrle is left cursing his poor touch after clever work from Muller had led to an opening in the Argentina penalty area. Schurrle wasn't expecting the pass from Muller when it arrived and the ball bobbles off his shin and through to Romero.
An update on Lionel Messi, who appears to have shrugged off his earlier knock. After a quiet 15 minutes, he's back in the fold. He ducked inside from the right wing like he has done countless times before, but this time his shot from the edge of the box was wayward.
